Central America

Central America: from Panama City to Veracruz in Mexico, a real motorbike holiday in the warmth of the Caribbean!!!! The Transamerica Central is a special journey that takes you to see a part of the world that is often put aside and little known. After a first edition in 2007 that went very well and others later, we believe and hope that many will like it, a journey that takes us to visit the famous canal and cross Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and a part of Mexico all on paved roads, pleasant to drive and with road surfaces in excellent condition therefore suitable for any motorbike. The season is ideal for  the Central America tour involving Caribbean areas that in winter have their maximum splendor with 20/25 degrees practically constant and low rainfall. Panama welcomes us with the capital, Panama’, accented, French-style, chaotic, modern but ancient with the Casco antiguo on the old Spanish fortress, the famous canal that alone is worth the trip for the economic and political implications that developed after its construction, the Ponte de las Americas on the canal that we cross at the start of the trip, then a long border, even 6 hours between Panama and Costa Rica, not because of objective difficulties but because of the slowness of the procedures and technical difficulties but this is also part of the trip. Costa Rica is a country rich in vegetation, the most “western” of those we cross with volcanoes and vegetation everywhere, Nicaragua impresses us with Granada, a jewel on an immense lake in which sharks also swim, Honduras makes us dream with the archaeological sites of Copan, Guatemala seduces us with Lake Atitlan, Antigua and Chichicastenango to enter Mexico and after San Cristobal de las Casas, in Chiapas, we arrive in Huatulco a pearl on the Pacific Ocean, not to mention the pyramids of Monte Alban. We are waiting for you and if you do not have a bike you can have one from our fleet

Itinerary

Day 1 – Panama City
Meeting of participants and welcome dinner, which will be repeated tomorrow for those arriving late in Panama. Two are better than one!

Day 2 – Panama
Free day to pick up the motorcycles and organize the trip and visits to the city, especially the famous Canal. Dinner at a traditional restaurant in the Old Town and overnight stay in Panama City.

Day 3 – Panama - Los Planes (470 km)
The journey begins, but only after the customary photos on the Puente de Las Americas, from the Amador Promenade, where you can admire the city skyline, and a visit to the Miraflores Locks.
Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel with a spectacular location in the middle of nowhere.

Day 4 – Los Planes - Puerto Limon (315 km)
From the hotel, we continue along a road we'd already partially driven yesterday, recently paved and one of the most beautiful of the entire trip. It crosses the sierra and quickly descends toward the ocean in the Chiriqui Grande area. We cross the border with Costa Rica, with great patience. We spend the night along the coast a few kilometers from the border.

Day 5 – Puerto Limon - San Jose - La Fortuna (350 km)
Moving inland, toward the capital, the volcanic mountainous area begins. Winding, scenic, well-paved roads lead to the main tourist attractions: today, we pass through Irazu National Park, then continue on to La Fortuna, near Arenal Volcano Park, for the next two nights, passing through the capital, San Jose, for those who wish.
Dinner and overnight in La Fortuna.

Day 6 – La Fortuna
A day with possible visits to cocoa plantations, the sloth park, and park walks, weather permitting.
Dinner and overnight stay in La Fortuna.

Day 7 – La Fortuna - Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste) (260 km)
We'll leave the national park area, following the beautiful road along the shores of the Arenal Lagoon to then join the Pan-American Highway. We'll follow it for about 20 km south, then head towards the Nicoya Peninsula, an area offering excellent sightseeing opportunities with its countless nature reserves. Dinner and overnight stay on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Day 8 – Relaxation and various visits.
Relaxation and idleness or various excursions along the ocean beaches, dinner and overnight stay on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Day 9 – Playa Hermosa - Granada (Nicaragua) (230 km)
Another customs check awaits us: we're entering Nicaragua. The scheduled arrival is in Granada, one of the most beautiful cities in Central America, very colonial with a dozen churches, charming even if somewhat rundown, but that's part of its peaceful and relaxing beauty. Dinner and overnight stay in the city center.

Day 10 – Granada - Tegucigalpa (Honduras) (430 km)
Probably the longest day, with another border crossing and arrival in the capital of Honduras: Tegucigalpa. We'll follow the main road, which in the last stretch is truly spectacular and has excellent asphalt. Dinner and overnight stay in the city.

Day 11 – Tegucigalpa - Copan Ruinas (420 km)
Departure from the Honduran capital to reach the destination of the day, Copan and its fantastic ruins, which we'll visit the next day. Dinner and overnight stay in the city center.

Day 12 – Copan Ruinas - Antigua Guatemala (280 km)
Visit the Copan Ruins and depart for yet another border checkpoint between Honduras and Guatemala. If you liked Granada, Antigua Guatemala will fascinate you. A World Heritage Site, it's undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and fascinating cities in Latin America. Dinner and overnight stay in the city center.

Day 13 – Visit to Antigua
The city is worth it, what more can I say? Dinner and overnight stay are up to you. Dinner and overnight stay in Antigua.

Day 14 – Excursion to Tikal
Today, we've planned an excursion to Tikal, one of the most important Mayan ruins, for those who want it. For those who don't want to participate and have had enough of "stones," a day of relaxation and more visits to Antigua is certainly not wasted. Dinner and overnight stay in Antigua

Day 15 – Antigua Guatemala - Lake Atitlan - Chichicastenango (210 km)
A short stop to quickly reach Lake Atitlan, surrounded by indigenous villages and spectacular with the volcanoes San Pedro (3,020 m) and Taliman (3,158 m) reflected in its waters. Continue to Chichicastenango, where a visit awaits. Dinner and overnight stay at the Museo Mayan Inn, practically in the market!

Day 16 – Chichicastenango - San Cristobal de Las Casas (Mexico) (418 km)
The final customs check before entering Mexico. We enter Chiapas with its mountain roads to reach San Cristobal de las Casas: ancient, evocative, quiet, relaxed, and refreshing. Dinner and overnight stay in the center.

Day 17 – San Cristobal – Huatulco (521 km)
The stage is very long and in some places feels like a racetrack, so tempting are the curves with their fantastic, grainy asphalt. Motorcyclists will not be disappointed. Arrival in the evening in one of the most fascinating places in Mexico. Dinner and overnight stay in Huatulco.

Day 18 – Relax in Huatulco.
What could be better, after almost 5,000 km, than a day on the ocean shore, sipping a drink and relaxing by the pool. For those who want, there are various excursions to the Huatulco lighthouse and Puerto Escondido, but that can also be done tomorrow! Dinner and overnight stay in Huatulco.

Day 19 – Huatulco – Oaxaca (295 km)
A pleasant new highway leads to Oaxaca (pronounced Uahaca), passing through Puerto Escondido for a visit and a coffee. Another thirty kilometers further, you'll arrive in time for an afternoon of sightseeing, another charming colonial city, but much larger than San Cristobal. Arriving in Oaxaca, you can visit the archaeological site of Monte Alban, about 10 km outside the city, or pass through tomorrow morning on your way to the final stop. Dinner and overnight stay in the city center.

Day 20 – Oaxaca - Veracruz (470 km)
After visiting the Monte Alban site, we take the highway, quite pleasant in parts, which in about 450 kilometers will take us to Veracruz, the final destination of our journey.
Dinner and overnight stay in the city center.

Day 21 – Veracruz
In the morning, we'll deliver the motorcycles for shipping to Italy, and enjoy the last day of relaxation and travel. Farewell dinner and overnight stay.

Day 22 - Return flight to your home. See you soon with Mototouring!
